Day 1: Cusco – Cachora – Chiquisqa
Starting our Choquequirao Trek, we kick off our adventure at 5:00 AM in Cusco. After boarding our private transport, we'll journey 160 kilometers to the picturesque village of Cachora, a trip estimated at 4 hours.
By 9:00 AM, Cachora welcomes us. Here, we organize our gear with our trekking team and load the mules. Before our hike, there's time for breakfast and last-minute purchases.
At 10:00 AM sharp, we'll set out from Cachora to Chiquisqa. The morning hike, a gentle 2-hour, 8-kilometer stretch, boasts views of the majestic Padreyoc Mountain, standing tall at 5,500 meters.
Come noon, a lunch break amidst the Apurimac Valley awaits. This hour of rest sets us up for the afternoon descent into the valley. From 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, we'll navigate a 7-kilometer, 1,000-meter drop.
Our day wraps up at the Chiquisqa campsite. With tents set up, a sumptuous dinner from our trekking chef will warm our bellies. As darkness blankets the Andean wilderness, we'll settle in, anticipating day two's promises on the Choquequirao Trek.
Day 2: Chiquisca – Santa Rosa – Choquequirao
On the second day, we'll awaken at 5:00 AM in Chiquisqa, gearing up for our hike to the ancient city of Choquequirao. After breakfast, our trek starts with a 2-hour descent to the Apurimac River, covering 4 kilometers and a 500-meter drop.
By 8:00 AM, we'll cross the river on a suspension bridge and begin our rigorous ascent to Santa Rosa. This 3-hour climb, covering 3 kilometers and an elevation gain of 800 meters, offers us the beauty of the Apurimac Valley's lush surroundings.
Santa Rosa welcomes us around 11:00 AM for a rest and lunch. This hour allows us to taste the local coca tea, known for its altitude sickness alleviating properties.
We're back on the trail by noon, hiking 2 hours towards the Maranpata plateau, gaining another 400 meters in elevation over 4 kilometers, with the Apurimac Valley’s vistas as our backdrop.
By 2:00 PM, Maranpata serves as our short rest stop before the final stretch. We'll then walk a comfortable 3 kilometers to the Choquequirao campsite, arriving by 4:00 PM.
The day concludes with a captivating view of the sunlit Choquequirao ruins. Post-dinner, we'll rest up, with day three's exploration of the ancient city in our sights.
Day 3: Choquequirao – Playa Rosalinas
The third day of our trek starts in the enchanting city of Choquequirao at 6:00 AM. After breakfast, we'll dive into the Choquequirao ruins, immersing ourselves in its Inca history until 10:00 AM.
Next, we head back to Maranpata, a 2-hour, 3-kilometer trek filled with the sights of the Apurimac Valley. By noon, we break for lunch, regaining our strength for the journey ahead.
Our descent begins at 1:00 PM, moving towards Santa Rosa. By 3:00 PM, after traversing 4 kilometers and dropping 400 meters, we'll pause at Santa Rosa. Then, our route takes us deeper down to the Apurimac River, covering 3 kilometers and descending 800 meters.
By 5:00 PM, we’ll cross the river via a suspension bridge. The final push of the day is an ascent to Playa Rosalinas, covering 4 kilometers and climbing 500 meters.
At 6:00 PM, Playa Rosalinas becomes our sanctuary for the night. After setting up camp, a delicious dinner awaits, leading us to rest, reminisce, and ready ourselves for the final day of our trek.
Day 4: Playa Rosalinas – Cachora – Cusco
The final day of our trek commences at 5:00 AM in Playa Rosalinas. Following breakfast, we'll kick off our 3-hour ascent to Chiquisqa at 6:00 AM, covering 4 kilometers and gaining 500 meters, all while being treated to the Apurimac Valley's majestic views.
By 9:00 AM, after a brief respite in Chiquisqa, our next challenge awaits: a 3-hour, 7-kilometer steep climb to the Capuliyoc viewpoint, elevating us by another 1,000 meters. The effort is rewarded with captivating panoramas of the Andean landscape.
Lunch at the Capuliyoc viewpoint around noon allows us to refuel amidst awe-inspiring sights. By 1:00 PM, we embark on the final 2-hour, 8-kilometer walk to Cachora.
By 3:00 PM, our epic Choquequirao Trek concludes in Cachora. Here, we'll express our gratitude to the trekking crew and board our private transport back to Cusco, expecting to arrive around 7:00 PM.
