Day 1: Cusco – Cuncani – Yanacocha – Huacawasi
On Day 1 of the Lares Trek to Machu Picchu, starting early, we drive 6 hours to Cuncani, with a stop in Calca for breakfast and shopping. In Cuncani, you'll immerse yourself in the Andean landscape, encountering local wildlife and communities. After passing through Yanacocha, you'll enjoy lunch by a lake. The day concludes with a 5-6 hour hike to the Huacawasi campsite, situated at 3600 meters, prepping you for the next day's challenges.
Day 2: Sondor – Huacawasi C’asa Pass – Aruray Cocha – Yurak Cocha – Mantanay – Pucara
On Day 2 of the Lares Trek, after breakfast, we embark on a challenging 4-hour hike to the Huacawasi Pass, the trek's highest point at 4500 meters. With an emergency horse on standby, we'll pass through magnificent Andean landscapes and experience chilly weather. After reaching the summit, our descent takes us past scenic lagoons and a lunch break. As we continue down, we'll traverse a forest filled with native Queuña trees and diverse flora and fauna. The day concludes at the Pucara campsite at 3000 meters, where warm tea and snacks await.
Day 3: Pucara – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes
On Day 3 of the Lares Trek, we head to the Yanahuara Inca terraces, observing traditional corn cultivation. The journey continues through Pachar, linking with the Inca Trail to Ollantaytambo. Along the way, we visit the Choccana archaeological site before stopping for lunch in Ollantaytambo, a town known for its Inca heritage. In the afternoon, a train takes us to Aguas Calientes, where you can explore and relax in natural springs. The day concludes with an overnight stay in a local hotel.
Day 4: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco
