1-Day Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain Trek Kick off your journey to the Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain with a 7:00 AM pick-up from your Cusco hotel. As we travel through the South Sacred Valley for 3.5 hours in private transport, prepare for vistas that will take your breath away. Our journey includes a brief pause in the quaint colonial village, Checacupe, where you can refresh and maybe grab some snacks. While in Checacupe, admire its ancient rope bridge, reminiscent of the Qeswachaka Rope Bridge, and its colonial-era church. Driving onwards, the route offers views of schools, communities, and if it's the right season, the vibrant "Inca's Blood" river, a result of monsoon rains carrying mineral-rich soil downhill. Once we reach the base camp, situated at 4,900 meters (16,076 ft.) above sea level, our guide will enlighten you about the mountain's formation and the traditions of its inhabitants. The ascent to Palccoyo’s peak (5,000 meters or 16,404 ft. above sea level) is roughly an hour, rewarding trekkers with stunning vistas of the sacred Ausangate Mountain and Rock Forest's unique stone formations. Having soaked in Palccoyo’s beauty, we'll trace our steps back to the parking area, concluding our circuit trek. We'll then refuel with a local lunch in Checacupe before journeying back to Cusco.
