Day 1: Cusco to Huayllabamba - The Beginning of the Inca Trail Adventure Kick off your four-day Inca Trail journey with an early departure from Cusco. We journey to Ollantaytambo, the final major town before our hike, allowing you a chance for any last-minute essentials. Our adventure truly begins at Piskacucho, also known as Km 82, marking its distance from Cusco to Machu Picchu. With formalities sorted and passports verified with the Inca Trail permits, we tread a scenic route uphill towards Miskay. En route, be enthralled by the picturesque landscapes and intriguing lesser-known Inca sites. At Miskay, indulge in a delightful Andean lunch whipped up by our local chef. Post lunch, our trek resumes for two more hours, unfolding more archeological wonders until we reach Huayllabamba, our campsite at 3,000 meters (9842 feet). Expect a warm welcome by our crew at 5:00 PM, complete with appetizing snacks and freshly brewed Peruvian beverages. As day turns to night, enjoy the tranquil sunset followed by a hearty dinner. Finally, retreat into your tent for a restful night, energizing for the days ahead. Day 2: Huayllabamba to Pacaymayu - Scaling the Dead Woman’s Pass Greet the dawn of day two with the aroma of freshly brewed Peruvian coffee or tea, paired with a nutrient-rich breakfast to power up your hike. Brace yourself for a challenging yet rewarding ascent, as we embark on a five-hour journey uphill to the pinnacle of the Inca Trail, the iconic Dead Woman’s Pass. Standing majestically at 4600 meters (15091 feet), its unique silhouette resembles a woman reclining amidst the Andes. At this zenith, indulge in breathtaking panoramas and absorb the ethereal Andean energy. Our guide will enrich the moment with tales of Andean myths and traditions, deepening your connection to these ancient lands. Subsequently, we will start our two-hour descent to Pacamayu, nestled at 3600 meters (11811 feet). Refuel with a sumptuous lunch courtesy of our crew, and then indulge in a rejuvenating siesta; this serene spot is our campsite for the night. As dusk approaches, warm up with evening tea or coffee, setting the mood for a delectable dinner. Day 3: Pacaymayu to Wiñay Wayna on the Classic Inca Trail Starting at 6:00 AM, day three promises an adventure filled with history and breathtaking views. After a hearty Andean breakfast, we depart from Pacaymayu at 7:00 AM, journeying to three remarkable archaeological sites. The first stop, after an hour's ascent, is the Runkuraqay complex at 3,800 meters. This site was pivotal in Inca history, and our local guide will ensure a captivating tour. Moving onwards and slightly uphill, we reach the Runkurakay Pass at 3,760 meters, where we'll pause to marvel at the valley vistas. The trail then takes us downhill for about 45 minutes to the Sayacmarca archaeological site, located at 3,850 meters. After soaking in its historical significance, we trek downwards to Chakicocha at 3,600 meters, pausing for a well-deserved lunch. Our post-lunch trail leads to Phuyupatamarca, the last segment of the untouched Inca Trail, dotted with ruins that whisper tales of the past. We conclude the day's journey at Wiñay Wayna, our campsite standing at 2,600 meters. Wiñay Wayna, translating to "forever young" in Quechua, boasts arguably the trail's most stunning archaeological site. As the day closes, we'll enjoy a mesmerizing sunset before retreating to our camp for dinner. Day 4: Wiñay Wayna to Machu Picchu and Return to Cusco Our day begins early at 3:00 AM. After breakfast, we bid farewell to our supportive staff, and you can offer tips if you wish. Our hike resumes with a journey of an hour towards the iconic Sun Gate, or Inti Punku. This moment is the pinnacle of the Inca Trail trek as the sunrise illuminates the majestic Machu Picchu, gradually revealed by the dispersing clouds. From this vantage point, we make our descent to a checkpoint and proceed to the heart of the Machu Picchu citadel. Our tour starts with an overview of Inca history, followed by explorations of key areas, including the main plaza and the farming terraces. For those with bookings to ascend Machu Picchu or Huayna Picchu mountains, our guide will guide you to the entrances. After savoring the wonders of Machu Picchu, a bus whisks us to Aguas Calientes. This is your free time: perhaps lunch, wandering the town, or even indulging in the therapeutic hot springs, a perfect remedy for trek-weary muscles. Our journey back to Cusco starts with a 6:00 PM train to Ollantaytambo. Upon arrival, our representative will greet and transfer you to your Cusco hotel, concluding our adventure by 10:00 PM.
