The Wufeng Lin Family Garden was built in 1906 and completed in 1914. It is a Japanese-Western architecture built during the Japanese colonial period. It is the last piece of the puzzle of the Lin Family's historic buildings and has been in existence for more than a century. It was originally used as a place for Mr. Lin Ji-tang (1874-1922) to play. The front yard was a barn and a tent; there was a zoo in the back yard, where rare animals purchased from Tokyo were kept. It was a must-visit attraction for Japanese people visiting Taichung at that time; The Yipu is also a Western-style garden where Mr. Lin Xiantang holds new gatherings and tea parties.
In 1951, Mr. Lin Henian (1914-1994), the first democratically elected mayor of Taichung County and the fourth son of Mr. Lin Jitang, opened this place as a county government consultation and reception center, which became the origin of the red faction in Taichung politics.
The current owner of the Yipu, Lin Zhenting (1953~), is a descendant of Mr. Lin Littang (1876~1947). He is passionate about the fields of art and humanities and is committed to promoting them. In addition to collecting and exhibiting works by famous artists, he also often collaborates with emerging artists for exhibitions. Yipu Garden and Yipu Art Museum are one of the best exhibition venues. On the premise of preserving historical relics, they also have more artistic atmosphere, injecting the vitality of the new era into this ancient settlement.
